چکیده

Motivated by the recent demonstration of asymmetric transmission of light through stratified systems of various anisotropic metamaterials, we have established generalized reciprocal relations for both transmission and reflection for these systems referring to the two cases of incidence from opposite directions. These relations reduce to those derived previously for simple isotropic systems which guarantee reciprocal symmetry in both transmission and reflection for non-dissipative medium, and provide constraint for reflection from both sides in the presence of absorption. Illustrations of our generalized relations are provided for different material systems. * Phone: 1-503-725-3818 FAX: 1-503-725-2815 Email: [email protected]

Shear Waves Through Non Planar Interface Between Anisotropic Inhomogeneous and Visco-Elastic Half-Spaces

A problem of reflection and transmission of a plane shear wave incident at a corrugated interface between transversely isotropic inhomogeneous and visco-elastic half-spaces is investigated. Applying appropriate boundary conditions and using Rayleigh’s method of approximation expressions for reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained for the first and second order approximation of the...

Constraints on the reciprocal propagation of a quantum particle through a 1 D localized complex potential

In the propagation of an electron through a 1D asymmetric complex potential, it is known that while the conventional Green function reciprocity symmetry will ensure transmission to be symmetric between a “left-incident” and a “right-incident” beam, no such symmetry exists for the case of reflection. Here we derive generalized reciprocity relations for both the amplitude and phase of the reflect...

Zero Reflection from Anisotropic Metama- Terial Stratified Structures

A method of solving the scattering problem for general multilayer anisotropic structures composed of conventional materials and metamaterial is presented. The analysis is based on calculation of the hybrid matrix of layers by means of a recursive algorithm. The method does not have the complexity and instability problems of other methods and is reliable in all cases. The zero reflection from st...

Manipulating polarization of light with ultrathin epsilon-near-zero metamaterials.

One of the basic functionalities of photonic devices is the ability to manipulate the polarization state of light. Polarization components are usually implemented using the retardation effect in natural birefringent crystals and, thus, have a bulky design. Here, we have demonstrated the polarization manipulation of light by employing a thin subwavelength slab of metamaterial with an extremely a...

Design and measurements of a broadband two-dimensional acoustic metamaterial with anisotropic effective mass density

We present the experimental realization and characterization of a broadband acoustic metamaterial with strongly anisotropic effective mass density. The metamaterial is composed of arrays of solid inclusions in an air background, and the anisotropy is controlled by the rotational asymmetry of these inclusions. Transmission and reflection measurements inside a one-dimensional waveguide are used t...
